There is a good balance here between conversation and grammar, something not always found in Arabic learning materials. The course text also retains the harakaat (characters indicating short vowels) for an adequate length of time in order to accommodate learners not familiar with Arabic pronunciation, but other resources are available which retain harakaat much longer. Also keep in mind that the treatment of Arabic script in this course is not nearly as comprehensive as that provided in other resources, such as Georgetown University Press Alif Baa.
Be aware that this course changes about halfway through the text, switching from Modern Standard Arabic (MSA, or "Fus-Ha") to a series of short survey exposures to four different dialects. This is ideal for someone who has not yet decided upon a dialect to study, but it accomplishes it at the expense of a more comprehensive treatment of MSA. Anyone serious about studying MSA will want to supplement this course with other resources, for exposure to more pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. Examples include Georgetown University Press Al-Kitaab series, Yale University Press Ahlan Wa Sahlan series, the Madinah Islamic University Arabic Course for its large repository of online audio files, as well as the Arabic Between Your Hands series available from Saudi Arabia. (These latter two courses provide valuable guidance in pronunciation, but should not be attempted until the script and some basic vocabulary is thoroughly mastered.)
You'll also want to keep close at hand a good Arabic-English dictionary (e.g. first Al Mawrid, then eventually Hans Wehr after the Arabic root system is learned) as well as a decent English-Arabic dictionary which provides harakaat, such as the Oxford Dictionary of Current Usage.
