Arabic Writing for Style: al-Kitaba wa-l-uslub ReviewIntermediate in vocabulary but basic in style and grammar. Save one page, does no analysis on style past the sentence level. Most of the book is spent on tense, and little time is given to finer points of explanation. Most of the exercises consist of repeating in writing what the book has already written. There are annoying typos and unhelpful repetition abounds. There are no contextual examples.
I'm not sure I would recommend this book to anyone. Spend some real time with the Al-Kitaab series or read Ryding's Arabic grammar reference for grammarArabic Writing for Style: al-Kitaba wa-l-uslub OverviewThis book approaches its subject of Arabic writing and composition by looking at the discrete entities, including vocabulary, grammar, and transformations, which together comprise style. Assuming that different areas of writing require different styles, it presents examples of such areas (expressing time, instructions, physical descriptions, and so on), and for each example the relevant stylistic elements--vocabulary, grammar, and transformations--are outlined. The book, entirely in Arabic, is clear and logical, and is aimed at intermediate to advanced levels, although, with the assistance of a teacher, students at elementary levels will also find much of interest.
