A Study in Bohairic Coptic ReviewWanting to learn Coptic is a phase many Copts go through, but often not much comes from it because of a lack of resources. I was fortunate to find this book, because it certainly has given me a decent foundation in Coptic. The "Bohairic" in the title refers to the dialect that the Coptic Orthodox Church uses, and is such the only Bohairic-English grammar text I know of. Fortunately, it does a good job. Lessons are given with vocab and excersizes (no answers though). It is also presented in both English and Arabic. If I do have a few criticisms, it would be that I felt that some of the more difficult concepts weren't explained very well, that large sized text was used for much of the book which makes the 612 pages seem to be a lot larger that it actually is, and the paper quality isn't the best. And a glossary at the end would have been nice, although there is a very handy verb table at the end. All in all, this is certainly an admirable effort which is clearly the result of years of diligent research and effort. Working through this book will certainly make you very competent in Coptic.A Study in Bohairic Coptic OverviewA fully research text that teaches the Bohairic Coptic language in both English and Arabic. It includes a detailed and illustrated primer providing a step-by-step guide into Bohairic Coptic grammar and is a useful tool for the beginner and the scholar who will turn to it for continued reference. There is an extensive vocabulary plus interesting exercises of Bohairic Coptic words to help familiarize the student with the language.Want to learn more information about A Study in Bohairic Coptic?
