Al-Qur'an, the Guidance for Mankind - English with Arabic Text ReviewI have quite a few different English translations of the Qur'an, and I have to say the Muhammad Farooq-i-Azam Malik's is by far the best. I like how he introduces each surah (chapter) with the background and key topics covered in it. It reminds me of the study Bibles I used to read before I reverted. The English used is modern English...no need to translate the English in reading it. :) Easy to Understand. Fun to read. What more do you need?
I would definitely recommend this Qur'an for people interested in Islam looking for a first Qur'an to read... new Reverts to Islam...and native English-speaking Muslims of all ages.Al-Qur'an, the Guidance for Mankind - English with Arabic Text OverviewAl-Qur'an, the Guidance for mankind, is a uniquetranslation of the Holy Qur'an in contemporary American English. Itincludes the Biography of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, hismission as a Prophet, his ranking as in the human history. It includesthe entire Text of the Holy Qur'an. Its features include - (1) FieldTesting the Communication of Divine Message: The unique feature ofthis translation is its field testing for over 3 1/2 years to improvethe communication and understanding of the Divine Message. Translationpassages were given to the New Muslim and Non-Muslim high school andcollege students for reading under the supervision of various Ulema(scholars). After reading, the person was asked to explain as to whathe/she understood from the passage. If his/her understanding was thesame as is in the Arabic Text of the Holy Qur'an then we concludedthat we have been successful in conveying the Divine Messageproperly. If his/her understanding wa!s different than what theQur'anic verses were stating, we kept on rewording the translationuntil those verses were understood properly. It was tremendouspatience on part of the participants. May Allah reward them all. (2)Simplicity: In this translation Simple Language and Direct Approach isused for appealing to the common sense of scholars and commonpeople. (3) Understandability: There are no foot notes to refer and nocommentary or lengthy explanations to read. All necessary explanationshave been incorporated right there in the text with italic typesetting to differentiate from the translation of the meanings ofQur'anic Arabic Text. (4) Outline of Pertinent Information: Beforethe start of each Srah, information relating to its Period ofRevelation, Major Issues, Divine Laws and Guidance has been presentedas an outline. Then a summary of the preceding events has beentabulated for the reader to understand the historical background tograsp the full meaning of the !Divine Message. (5) Reviews, Inputand Approvals: This proj!ect was started in 1991 and initial draftcompleted in 1994. Then the Translation was sent to different Ulema(Scholars) in Town and throughout United States for their review andinput. After their reviews and input it was sent to Jme Al-AzharAl-Sharif in Egypt, Ummal Qur in Saudi Arabia and InternationalIslamic University in Pakistan for their review, input andapproval. This translation was published after their reviews andapprovals.
