Actually, it's not a language learning book, but, I believe, it's essential for understanding how the Arab culture influences and is a part of the language. I have been learning Arabic for 10 years and often wondered why students of French, Russian, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese, etc. have access to books that mix more culture into their language learning. Now, with Arab Culture, students can have a context in which to put their language learning. The Arab culture is so rich, it is about time a book provided an introduction. Learning Arabic can be quite confusing, between formal, Modern Standard and all the colloquial dialects. Additionally, the histories of so many Arab countries is quite different -- historically, socially, religiously, etc. It's no wonder most students are confused, and teachers feel overwhelmed in trying to explain all the differences. For this reason, I believe Arab Culture should be "required reading" in university classes dealing with the religions, language, politics, history, etc. in the Arab world. Definitely a necessary companion book to any Arabic language course.
